I am very excited to announce that today marks the official release of my new record “Brand New.” It features one of the best bands I’ve ever had the privilege of working with, and I’m really looking forward to sharing it with everyone, so please listen for it on your local jazz stations.

In other news, I just finished a great weekend at Smalls’ in New York City, a fantastic little club in the West Village. The band included Jim Rotondi, Steve Davis and David Hazeltine (all of whom are on the recording) and also had David Wong and Joe Strasser on bass and drums. We had a sold out crowd both nights, and the vibe was amazing, which included modern trumpet greats Ryan Kisor and Darren Barrett sitting in for the last couple tunes on Saturday night.

Things are shaping up for another good season on Mackinac. My group will be opening for Dave Brubeck during the Labor Day Jazz Festival, and I’ve got a lot of talented players new and old coming out. One exciting, new development is that I have accepted a position at The Bay View Festival in Petoskey as its Coordinator of Jazz Studies. As such, I will be teaching a student jazz trio during their 8-week summer season. Stay tuned for more concert appearances on the island as well as in Petoskey this summer.
